Surgery & Laser Surgery in Arlington, TX

Surgery From a Team That Takes the Time

Hearing that your pet needs surgery is stressful. At Park Plaza Animal Clinic, we walk you through what the procedure involves, how we will keep your pet comfortable and what recovery will look like, before anything is scheduled.

Dr. D’Anne Stephens enjoys surgery, and our surgical cutting laser lets us perform many procedures with less bleeding, swelling and pain. Most surgeries are done right here at 1811 E Park Row Dr, Suite A, Arlington, TX 76010, so your pet stays with a team you already know.

Surgeries We Perform

Spay and Neuter

Routine but never treated as routine. See our Spay & Neuter page →

Soft Tissue Surgery

Lump and mass removals, wound and laceration repair, and other procedures on the skin and soft tissues.

Hernia Repair

Closing an opening in the body wall where fat or organs can push through, often found in puppies and kittens.

Bladder Stone Removal (Cystotomy)

Surgery to open the bladder and remove stones that are causing pain, blood in the urine or blockages.

Urethrostomy (Dogs and Cats)

Creates a wider, permanent urinary opening for pets with repeated urinary blockages or stones. A blocked male cat is a medical emergency.

Gastrointestinal Surgery

Removing swallowed objects such as socks, toys and bones, and treating blockages of the stomach and intestines.

Abdominal Surgery

Exploratory surgery and procedures on the organs in the abdomen.

Cherry Eye Repair

Cherry eye is a gland of the third eyelid that pops out as a red swelling in the corner of the eye. Surgery aims to put the gland back in place, since it produces a large share of the eye’s tears. Common in Bulldogs and other short-nosed breeds.

Entropion Correction

Rolls an inward-turned eyelid back out so the lashes and hair stop rubbing the eye, which can cause painful ulcers.

Brachycephalic Airway Surgery

Widening narrow nostrils (stenotic nares) and shortening an overly long soft palate to help short-nosed breeds breathe more easily.

Dental Surgery and Extractions

Removing teeth that are fractured, infected or loose. See our Dental Care page →

Our Surgical Cutting Laser

A surgical laser uses a focused beam of light in place of, or alongside, a scalpel. Because the laser seals small blood vessels and nerve endings as it cuts, it can mean:

  • Less bleeding during surgery
  • Less swelling after surgery
  • Less pain during recovery
  • A possible lower risk of infection, since the laser beam sterilizes as it cuts

Not every procedure calls for the laser. Our doctors will tell you whether it is the right tool for your pet’s surgery.

Keeping Your Pet Safe Under Anesthesia

  • Pre-surgical exam to make sure your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia.
  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork with our in-house lab to check organ function.
  • An anesthesia plan matched to your pet’s age, breed, size and health, with extra planning for short-nosed breeds.
  • Pain management Pain management before, during and after surgery. We recommend Phovia Light Therapy to support incision healing when appropriate.
  • Cold laser therapy and Phovia to support incision healing when appropriate.
  • Careful Monitoring Throughout Surgery: Your pet is closely monitored throughout the procedure, including heart rate and rhythm (ECG/EKG), blood oxygen levels (SpO₂), and body temperature. IV fluids are administered to help maintain hydration and support circulation during surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

For many procedures, a laser means less bleeding, swelling and pain. For others, a scalpel is the better tool. Our doctors choose the method that is best for your pet’s specific surgery.

Age alone is not a reason to avoid surgery. We check organ function with bloodwork first and adjust the anesthesia plan for your pet’s health.

Most pets need 10 to 14 days of limited activity after soft tissue surgery. We will give you a recovery plan specific to your pet’s procedure.

It depends on the procedure, your pet’s size and health, and the length of anesthesia. We give you an estimate before scheduling. Call (817) 277-1195. Financing is available through CareCredit and Cherry.
